A bill check is a simple comparison: the recurring charges on the bill against the monthly cost on the service record. Taxes, one-time fees and credits are shown but never compared, since they move for reasons that have nothing to do with the contract.
What the results mean
- Matches: within $5 or 2% of the agreed price, whichever is larger. Rounding and small rate changes pass.
- Over: the carrier charged more than agreed. Dispute it from the bill and the claim is tracked until the credit arrives.
- Under: less than agreed. Usually a promotion or a dropped line; worth a look so a missing service is not mistaken for a saving.
- Expected change: someone marked the difference as known, for example after a price change was agreed. It stays recorded and stops flagging.
- No expected cost: the service has no agreed price yet, so there is nothing to check against. Add the price from the contract.
Beyond one bill
Bills by month lists every service that was running in a month with its bill or the fact that none was saved, so a missing bill is as visible as a wrong one. The tax and fee check compares the share of taxes on each bill with what is usual for that kind of service. A service billed after it was canceled is flagged on the service itself.
